About Cas-Cad-Nac Farm

Nestled on the southern slope of Mount Ascutney in Weathersfield, Vermont, Cas-Cad-Nac Farm is a full-time family enterprise and the largest alpaca farm in New England. A fully diversified alpaca operation since 1997, CCNF is what is known throughout most of the world as a stud farm that breeds elite caliber breeding stock that other farmers, ranchers, or hobby owners use to populate their own farms and breeding programs. Through their partnership in the Vermont Fiber Mill & Studio , they market alpaca yarn, rovings, batts, and felt. In addition, they sell alpaca meat, a staple protein of the Andean countries of South America for millennia.

By investing in a renewable energy project, Cas-Cad-Nac Farm is making a visible demonstration of its commitment to sustainability and its pursuit of a Triple Bottom Line. The PV project has the net benefits of reducing CCNF’s carbon footprint, benefitting all Vermonters by greening the local electric grid, while delivering sizable financial returns for the company over time.

Project Summary

NST constructed a 112-kW DC / 90-kW AC rooftop solar array on the roof of the large arena at Cas-Cad-Nac Farm. This PV system is projected to generate ~131,600 kWhs in Year 1. Net Metering in Vermont allows owners of solar projects to receive credits on their electric bills for all of the electricity that they generate via solar.

The projected generation of the new PV system is enough to offset 100% of the annual consumption at CCNF.
