Jonathan Lynch, our Vice President of Research & Development, has been honored with a 2026 Renewable Energy Lifetime Achievement Award from Renewable Energy Vermont (REV). The award was presented at the REV2026 conference in Burlington, Vermont, on October 14, 2026, during the organization's annual Lunch & Awards ceremony.

We are proud to share this news with our community. Jonathan's recognition reflects a career dedicated to advancing clean energy technology and the spirit of innovation that drives Norwich Technologies. From developing new approaches to solar deployment and energy storage to bringing emerging technologies toward commercialization, Jonathan's work exemplifies our commitment to building a more sustainable energy future.

About Jonathan Lynch

Jonathan joined our team in 2018 as the Vice President of Research & Development at Norwich Technologies. He is an award-winning engineer with decades of experience in microgrids, storage technology, applied research and development, and intellectual property development.

Before joining Norwich Technologies, Jonathan served as Chief Technology Officer at Northern Power Systems for 17 years. There, he worked on advanced wind turbines using direct-drive, permanent-magnet generator technology, as well as power conversion and system controls for energy storage and microgrid applications. He holds a BS with Honors in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and has nine patents.

At Norwich Technologies, Jonathan has continued to apply his technical expertise to the challenges and opportunities shaping the clean energy industry. His work supports our efforts to develop practical solutions that improve renewable energy deployment, expand grid capabilities, and bring innovative technologies to market.

What Is the Renewable Energy Lifetime Achievement Award?

Renewable Energy Vermont presents its Lifetime Achievement Award to individuals who have made significant, lasting contributions to the growth of renewable energy in Vermont and the broader region. The award recognizes careers defined by technical innovation, leadership, and meaningful impact on the clean energy sector.

Jonathan was one of two recipients honored at REV2026, alongside Northern Power Systems co-founder Jito Coleman. This recognition places him among a distinguished group of professionals who have helped shape Northern New England's renewable energy landscape over decades of work. Norwich Technologies also has a connection to REV's awards tradition through Martha Staskus, who received the organization's Renewable Energy Champion Award in 2019.

A Culture of Innovation at Norwich Technologies

Innovation has long been central to Norwich Technologies' approach to renewable energy. Through our family of businesses, we work to develop, commercialize, and deploy technologies that address real-world energy challenges and help accelerate the transition to a cleaner, more resilient grid.

Our innovation efforts span multiple areas of the clean energy industry. SnowShedder and EZ-PV modules reflect our work to explore new approaches to solar technology and deployment. Our research and development initiatives have also included SunTrap and HeatTrap, technologies developed to explore new possibilities in solar energy and thermal applications.

This work extends beyond individual products. Norwich Technologies' research and commercialization efforts contributed to the creation of Durion, a company spun off from SunTrap and HeatTrap technology. The Durion spin-off demonstrates how research can move beyond the development stage to establish new opportunities for bringing emerging technologies to market.

Together, these initiatives illustrate the breadth of Norwich Technologies' innovation efforts and the importance of connecting engineering expertise, applied research, and commercialization. Jonathan's leadership helps support this process, turning technical ideas into potential solutions for the evolving energy landscape.

Leadership in R&D Furthers Our Mission

At Norwich Technologies, our mission centers on advancing the deployment of affordable clean energy across Northern New England. Jonathan's work in R&D directly supports that goal. His expertise in microgrids, energy storage, and technology development helps expand the solutions we can explore and deliver as energy needs evolve.

When CEO Jim Merriam announced Jonathan's addition to the team in 2018, he said, "Jonathan's experience in developing microgrids and storage solutions allows NT to serve our customers in finding new opportunities as we rethink how a modern electric grid should operate."

That vision remains central to our work today. Through Norwich Solar's engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services and the broader capabilities of Norwich Technologies, we connect innovation with practical applications that serve businesses, communities, and institutions.

Looking Ahead: Advancing Clean Energy Through Innovation

As the clean energy industry continues to evolve, Norwich Technologies remains focused on identifying new opportunities, developing promising technologies, and finding ways to bring innovative solutions to market. Battery energy storage, advanced grid integration, and new approaches to distributed generation remain important areas of focus.

Jonathan's Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes not only his decades of technical contributions but also the lasting value of continued investment in research and development. His career reflects the persistence, creativity, and practical engineering that help move the clean energy industry forward.

We congratulate Jonathan on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to continuing our work to advance clean energy innovation throughout Northern New England and beyond.
